Sister Angeline Visits from Kenya

The inspirational Sister Angeline travelled all the way from Kenya to visit our school. She builds SEND schools in Africa, and shared her experiences with us all.

One of our learners Molly summed it up perfectly:

鈥淪he has a very warm heart to do what she does鈥he鈥檚 an amazing person.鈥

Our BSL Choir Were Showcased at the MOBOs

Our brilliant BSL choir had the opportunity to take part in the recording of a music video for ‘God Gave Me Feet For Dancing’ by Ezra Collective for the MOBO awards.

Showcased to an audience of thousands, our choir were even lucky enough to attend the awards ceremony and walk the red carpet.

The MELISSA Bus

MELISSA is a double decker bus that delivers state-of-the-art healthcare training across the North East and North Cumbria.

Some of our students hopped on to learn about asthma and resuscitation, providing CPR to a series of mannikins. These students are officially our new Asthma Ambassadors, sharing their knowledge and training with other students.

World Book Day

We celebrated World Book Day in style with some brilliant costumes! We decorated doors to resemble some of our favourite books and had a fun-filled day celebrating the wonderful world of reading.

International Women’s Day Celebrations

One of our learners, Molly, and Mandy Davison, a Higher Level Special Support Assistant, were honoured at Newcastle City Council’s International Women’s Day event.

Molly was acknowledged for her incredible academic achievements and for serving as a role model to her peers, whilst Mandy was recognised for her significant contributions to the school community and beyond.

Black and White Day

We kicked off celebrations for Newcastle United gaining a place in the Carabao Cup final with a black and white themed party.

From black and white food, decorations and outfits, to a special performance of ‘Blaydon Races’ from our BSL choir, the excitement was certainly in the air.

We even had a personal message from Alan Shearer!

Animal Visits

Every animal, from furry friends to creepy crawlies have visited Northern Counties this year!

Our friends at Animal Antics delighted our learners by bringing along animals such as a tortoise, chicken, and centipede.

Zante Fox & Friends also recently visited our Summer School, bringing along a fox, owl, and mouse.

Easter Celebrations

The Widow Sons arrived in a motorbike convoy – much to the excitement of our learners. Arriving with easter eggs in tow, students were also able to hop onto their bikes and try on their helmets and gloves.

The RAF also made a special Easter visit, arriving with even more easter eggs to be enjoyed. Our learners asked them great questions like 鈥淲hat鈥檚 your favourite place you鈥檝e been?鈥 and 鈥淒o you have any deaf people in the RAF?鈥.

Live Theatre Garden

A group of learners gave a helping hand to Live Theatre’s Community Garden.

They brought their dream gardens to life by creating vision boards with magazine clippings, planting their own flowers and greenery, and regularly weeding and sweeping to keep the space looking vibrant and beautiful.

Bake Off

We held a school-wide Great British Bake Off competition where each class designed and created a cake as a team.

Beadnell Class took away the winning trophy with their fabulous creation that depicted fish, chips and peas – their favourite school dinner!

100th Birthday Celebrations

When some of our learners found out that Fleming Court Care Home resident Maisie Dalziel was celebrating her 100th birthday, they took to making her day extra special.

Arriving with handmade cards and gifts, our choir then performed ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’ and of course ‘Happy Birthday’.

Pride

June was Pride Month, focussed on celebrating the LGBTQIA+ community and highlighting the need for inclusion. Our learners enjoyed a series of activities, including a fashion show, a movement and music session, designing their own Pride flags and taking part in a march through Exhibition Park.

The Cherry Room

Helen Cherry, one of the first deaf nurses to work for the NHS, joined us for the official opening of the Cherry Room which was named in her honour.

We welcomed her with a performance of ‘This Is Me’ from the Greatest Showman before Helen cut the ribbon to open the Cherry Room. The room is designed to mirror medical environments to get students comfortable in these settings.

Our Trip to London

Some of our learners enjoyed a jam-packed residential trip to the capital!

They visited a series of iconic landmarks, including the Shard, Big Ben and Downing Street before visiting our local MP Catherine McKinnell at Parliament.

The trip was rounded off with a visit to the Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studio Tour where they immersed themselves in the wizarding world.

Prom

We bid some very fond farewells to our amazing leavers with our end of year prom.

Our learners got dressed up to the nines and celebrated all they have achieved in their time at Northern Counties.

Talent Show

The last day of term was celebrated with our Talent Show, where learners and staff from all over the school took to the stage to showcase their skills.

From singing, dance, and musical performances, we watched in awe as we saw the amazing talent we have here at Northern Counties.
