Support Friends of 91Ê×·¢ School at the Great North Run

Team Robinson are taking part in the Great North Run this year to raise vital funds for Friends of 91Ê×·¢ School (FoPHS)

Richard and Aisling Robinson are once again lacing up their running shoes for the Great North Run, proudly supporting Friends of 91Ê×·¢ School (FoPHS). As family members of Eileen Robinson (Family Liaison Officer at 91Ê×·¢ School) and former pupil Niall, the Robinsons have been long-standing supporters of the Foundation and its mission.

FoPHS plays a vital role in enriching the school experience for all pupils. In the past year alone, their fundraising efforts have made a wide range of exciting and meaningful experiences possible:

Great North Run 2024

Last year, Team Robinson raised £700 for Friends of 91Ê×·¢ School.

Christmas Cards

Students designed their own personalised cards, which were professionally printed through a Parentkind partner company. The initiative proved popular with families, offering a special way to share their child’s artwork while also raising approximately £150.

MOVE-ing in a Winter Wonderland

The MOVE programme is highly popular with students, designed to teach basic functional motor skills to those with complex physical needs. FoPHS funded £150 for this year’s Winter instalment – and it was a hit!

Christmas Gifts and Grotto

Parents and carers helped transform our Outdoor Learning Pod into a festive Santa’s Grotto, where every student received a selection box or sensory toy. FoPHS also funded Christmas party food across all departments, with sensory-friendly options for the LSTE department.

Through our Parentkind membership, we took part in the Asda Cashpot for Schools, raising £400 thanks to supporters who selected us as their chosen school.

National Trust Educational Membership

FoPHS funds the school’s National Trust membership, giving students and staff free access to a range of local properties. This year, visits have included Cragside, Wallington, Gibside, and Seaton Delaval Hall

Metro Pass

The annual school Metro pass, funded by FoPHS, is a well-used resource that enables up to 40 students and accompanying staff to travel via the Metro, Shields Ferry, and local buses to and from Metro stations.

Easter Celebrations

The Egg-cited to MOVE Easter event was another hit. Pupils enjoyed an easter egg hunt, shooting water guns, egg and spoon races and more, with £100 of resources funded by FoPHS. They also provided an Easter Egg or sensory alternative for all students.

Student Council

FoPHS proudly supports the Student Council, empowering students to raise funds for causes and activities that matter to them. In the lead-up to celebrations like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day, families generously donate gifts, which are then sold to students.

This year, thanks to their fundraising efforts, the Student Council funded four days of animal encounters and a True Colours workshop at the This Is Me Festival.

Summer MOVE Event

FoPHS provided £300 of funding towards the summer Story MOVErs event, blending movement, literacy, and teamwork.

Inspired by books like Ready, Steady, Mo! and The Tortoise and the Hare, the day featured sports challenges, creative literacy tasks, and a team relay.

This Is Me Festival

FoPHS provided £500 towards the annual This Is Me Festival, and it was a fantastic day filled with creativity, energy, and inclusion. Students and staff enjoyed a wide range of activities, from learning the art of Brazilian capoeira and painting vibrant mandalas, to taking part in a colourful march around the school yard.

Summer Fayre

The FoPHS Summer Fayre is always a much-anticipated event, featuring a vibrant mix of stalls offering a range of unique and high-quality items, activities, and a wonderful opportunity for our community to get together.

This year’s event raised an incredible £1453.89!

Here are just some of the fantastic initiatives FoPHS has funded in recent years:

  • Jolabokaflod Christmas celebrations – bringing the joy of Iceland’s festive book-gifting tradition to school.

  • Outdoor Learning Area improvements – including £1,000 for a music wall, £400 for wood chip and rubber matting, and £1500 to fund electric work for the Outdoor Learning Pod, Strachan’s Den.

  • Commemorative gifts – marking national events such as Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee and the Coronation of King Charles III.

  • Special experiences – including visits from a bubbleologist, science dome sessions, circus skills workshops, and magic shows.

  • Online theatrical productions – keeping the arts alive during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • True Colours Theatre Christmas Disco/Party – a festive and inclusive celebration for all.

The important work of the Friends of 91Ê×·¢ School wouldn’t be possible without vital funding. To help the FoPHS continue to provide unforgettable experiences for students, please donate to Team Robinson to spur them on to the finish line!
